After two years of evolution, sales in the sector of travel agencies is recovering in the last two years.

The indicators of the National Institute of Statistics shows a growth of 10% in the first six months of 2016, which adds to the 8.4% increase throughout 2015 and a slight yet remarkable 0.3% in 2014.

The positive outcomes are also obtained from the Bank Settlement Plam (BSP), billing system created by IATA, showing a production sales BSP air traffic 11% higher thus far year, added 3.8% the year 2015 and 4.5% in 2014.

The increased activity and employment growth coexist with maintaining the number of agencies, following the 5000 closure of travel agencies generated by six years of crisis. Shifting from 13,000 travel agencies to the current 8,000, which is 40% less.

The Spanish travel agency sector lacks of statistics and reports with data that refer to outbound tourism in such a way that business associations are regulated by intuition, market knowledge … rather than be guided by elaborated reports based on surveys. Which makes it difficult a rigorous study of Spanish tourism sector. In order to have a clear idea of how the sector is evolving is necessary from INE and IATA statistics.
